This arrangement of "The Swan" is for four ringers using four or five octaves of handbells plus a soloist. Complete assignments are disclosed in the Rehearsal Notes and Assignments page, and the piece is Level 4 when played with four ringers.
Originally written for cello solo with orchestral accompaniment, this arrangment has transposed the composition to fit within the four octave (plus one fifth octave note) range. Therefore, the new key allows various instruments to perform the solo part within their range. Enclosed are solo parts for violin, viola, cello, Bb clarinet, or two octaves of handchimes. If the solo is to be performed alone, the handbell accompaniment part may be performed on a keyboard.
"The Swan" is part of an orchestral suite entitled "Carnival of the Animals."
